JOHNSON AIMING TO INCREASE HORSEPOWER & WINS

MORE THAN FORTY YEARS of horse training has enabled Marvin Johnson to compile impressive numbers that exceed 1,800 wins and $13-million in purse earnings.

Success seemingly shadows Johnson, a member of the Nebraska Horse Racing Hall of Fame who downplays all of the accomplishments he has achieved since becoming a trainer in 1974.

"In this business, you don't really have time to look back. There's too much to deal with on a day-to-day basis," Johnson said. "Maybe someday, I'll have time to think about what I accomplished. Not now."

Johnson's immediate concern, as it has been for four decades, is winning races. To accomplish that goal, he is constantly searching for new horseflesh that presents lots of profit potential for prospective owners.

Picture yourself standing in the winner's circle, savoring the moment as a horse you own finishes first.  The roar of the crowd. The high-fives and hugs. And the post-race celebrations.

Every day is Kentucky Derby day when a horse you own runs. And Johnson is ready to help you savor the success of winning.

It doesn't matter if the race is a $3,500 claiming event or a $100,000 stakes race. Nothing beats the thrill of finishing first.

"I've been very fortunate over the years to have good owners and good horses. Makes my job easier,"Johnson said. "Winning is a team effort. I couldn't do it alone."
